Beijingers gave National stadium and National Swimming Center nickname called Bird’s nest and Water Cube.
Bird’s nest and Water Cube are located on the 2 sides of the central axis of Beijing or say the meridian line where we go through the Tian’an men Square, Forbidden city, Drum and Bell Tower to the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube. Bird’s nest is round symbolizing the heaven while water cube is square symbolizing the earth which is an ancient believing of China. We also can see a Dragon style architecture beside Bird’s Nest it is Seven star Pangu Hotel. Dragon along with the Bird’s Nest is symbolizing great harmony. We talk to history to our ancestors in this way. So the whole design is a combination of Chinese traditional culture and modern high-tech.
